Short Term Opportunities

Opportunities for 2013

Japan

Having the opportunity to live alongside OMF missionaries, you will be able to see life from a missionary’s perspective. You will assist them with their various ministries and outreach activities.  You can be apart of ministries to children, teens and the elderly.  There are some opportunities to help rejuvenate and rebuild the tsunami hurt areas.

Taiwan

Bring hope and care to low-income communities with many problems by assisting with summer programs as part of the International Team.  Assist the missionaries with the various ministries that they are apart of.  Assist with summer activities or through out the year with church planting.

At-Risk Kids International Team

Working with an international team to design and run activities programs over 3 weeks. These will be in two low-income communities characterised by many social problems and in association with the local school and community centre. To reach and serve kids and their families and to show love and acceptance, particularly to the neglected. Recommended for those under the age of 30.

Example of schedule:

Week 1 : Orientation, preparation for ministry, meeting Taiwanese coworkers/translators

Week 2: Run activities programme at Ta Li school in Wanhua

Week 3: Run activities programme at Fu Min low-income community

Week 4: Time to chill with students from previous weeks, debrief at scenic location, go home

Philippines

There is the opportunity for a one month internship program in an urban poor setting. You can be a part of a field ministry team and immerse yourself in the culture.   You can contact  the Serve Asia Administrator for more details.   You can be a part of an ongoing ministry and develop relationships with local Filipino people.

Thailand

The Thailand Field has a number of opportunities.  Here are a sample: Home-school Helpers, Outdoor Adventure Ministry, English Camps for Children, English Teachers, and Sports Ministry.  These are just a sampling of the opportunities that are open and desired.  Please contact the Serve Asia Administrator for more opportunities and details. 

China

There are a number of opportunities available for this area.  There are needs for English Teachers, children work, camp ministry, a “Building Team” to remodel one of the centers.  There are also needs for artists, webmasters and those with experience in creating curriculum.  As well as many other opportunities.

Child Care and TCK (Third Culture Kid) Workers

If you want to apply your passion for children or teen ministry this may be the opportunity for you. You can offer spiritual and physical renewal for children through VBS-like programs for 3 to 12-year olds and youth programs. For various retreats and conferences, there is an ongoing need for child care workers to help out, as well as for the OMF Orientation Course in Singapore in July and November. If you like working with kids, here is your chance. Spend a couple of weeks, or up to a month helping out or participate in a couple of field retreats.

Minorities

There are needs for teams of up to 7 people to participate in Prayer Walks.

Farmers and Carpenters are needed to help with building projects and other areas.

Also needed ASAP are Home-school Helpers.

There are ongoing needs for Childcare help for conferences.

Internships

There are various Internship Opportunities available in the Philippines, Thailand and other locations.

Prayer Journeys

Throughout the year there are a number of prayer journeys that take place.  Most of them are about 2 weeks long and involve intense times of prayer for specific areas of the world. 

Individual Placements

If there is something specific you would like to do or perhaps there is an area that you want to work in.  We can try to help that happen through an individual placement.  This is a trip that is specifically set up for the individual.

East Asia

Be salt and light among an unreached people group through a variety of sports, recreation and other activities rooted in the idea of cultural exchange. You will initiate the building of bridges with those with whom you come into contact.
